You set DeleteTweets to find posts from 2020 to 2022, or enter a keyword you know you used years ago. The scan returns only a few matches, even though your X profile shows thousands of posts. The likely reason is that those posts fall outside the recent timeline that DeleteTweets can scan. A date or keyword filter cannot match a post that the scan never received.
To find and bulk delete older tweets, request your official X/Twitter archive, then import its ZIP file into DeleteTweets Archive mode. The archive supplies the older post records that a recent timeline scan cannot reach.
Why does my tweet deleter find so few old tweets?
X's User Posts timeline endpoint provides up to 3,200 of an account's most recent posts. Replies and reposts can occupy places in that window, so it is not a promise of 3,200 original tweets. Likes are a separate type of activity; they do not count toward this post timeline limit.
In DeleteTweets' normal mode, date, keyword and other filters apply only to the recent posts X returns. For example, if your most recent 3,200 posts begin in 2023, a filter for 2020–2022 cannot match those older posts. Start begins deletion. With no filters, it can delete the recent posts it can access, so never click it to test the timeline range.
This is a discovery limit, not a rule that only 3,200 posts can ever be deleted. X also offers a separate full-archive search API with different access requirements. The 3,200 figure describes the recent timeline workflow discussed here, not every way to find a post on X.
How to delete tweets beyond the 3,200-post limit
Your X archive is a downloadable snapshot of your account data, starting with your first post. Importing it lets DeleteTweets identify historical posts by their records, then delete the selected live posts from the X account you are signed in to. Importing the ZIP alone does not delete anything.
1. Request and download your X archive ZIP
On x.com, open More → Settings and privacy → Your account → Download an archive of your data. Confirm your password and identity, then request the archive. X will notify you when it is ready. According to X's archive instructions, preparation can take a few days.
Download the ZIP while signed in to the same X account. Keep the original ZIP as a backup and do not alter its internal files. Posts published after you request the archive may not be in that snapshot.
2. Import the archive into DeleteTweets
Sign in to x.com in Chrome or Edge, open DeleteTweets, choose Archive, and select your ZIP. Archive cleanup requires DeleteTweets Pro; activate your license in the extension if you have purchased it. If the ZIP cannot be read, the archive guide explains how to try the archive's tweets.js file.
3. Filter and review the posts
Choose the type of activity to clean, then apply your date and keyword rules to the imported records. For a 2020–2022 cleanup, select that date range and add a keyword only if you want to narrow the result further. You can use exception keywords to protect posts you want to keep.
Review the matched posts before starting. An archive lets you search the older part of your history; it does not mean every archived item should be deleted. If the results are unexpectedly sparse, confirm that the ZIP belongs to the signed-in account and that the archive contains the period you selected.

4. Run the deletion and check the result
Start the bulk deletion and keep the browser and computer awake. Archive mode finds old post records, but the actual deletion still takes place on X and remains subject to X's changing limits. Large cleanups may need more than one session. Check several specific posts afterward instead of relying only on the profile count, which X says can be slow to reflect mass deletions.

Can I keep rerunning the scan to reveal older tweets?
No. Do not delete recent posts just to reveal older ones. Import a fresh archive to find the older posts directly.
Can X Advanced Search find an old tweet?
Yes. X Advanced Search supports account, keyword and date filters and can help you locate individual old posts. It is useful for spot checks or manual deletion. For filtering and bulk deleting years of your own history, an archive gives DeleteTweets a structured list to work from.
Does the 3,200-post limit apply to likes?
